Dr Deepika Yerrakalva is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Rest In Essence Mental Health Practice. Deepika also has an experience working as previous District Clinical Director for CAMHS and Staff Specialist across Community and Inpatient CAMHS teams with Hunter New England Local Health District since 2018 and as the Speciality Coordinator of Training for CAMHS for Hunter New England Training (HNET). Before that she has worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS across various child and adolescent general and specialist roles in London.
Deepika completed all her training in the UK – medical school at the University of Cambridge, working in basic medical and then general psychiatry training in Yorkshire before moving to London for specialty training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry. This training was at the world-renowned Tavistock Centre in North London, and as a result, she is skilled in a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities including systemic/family therapy, CBT, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic play therapy as well as group supervision, and running parent groups. She has an interest in organisational dynamics and has attended multiple Group Relations Conference including the prestigious Leicester Conference twice.
Deepika is interested in multi-modal formulation, and systemic thinking around families and organisations. Within her training, she also has extensive experience working with intergenerational trauma, and refugee families as well as acute inpatient and outreach work. She is passionate about developmentally appropriate, biopsychosocial, family-based approaches to mental health assessment and treatment and in promoting enthusiasm and confidence for this work in trainees and colleagues.
Deepika is not offering ADHD or ASD assessments at this time but will be able to assess general mental wellbeing issues and emotional and behavioural concerns in a family context for children and young people up to the age of 24. She is also available for family therapy, and to provide longer term talking therapies using solution focused, attachment based, CBT, MET, or psychodynamic approaches as appropriate.
