Comprehensive, ADHD, Autism & Learning Assessments
At Rest in Essence, we provide a comprehensive and supportive approach to assessing behavioural and psychological challenges —from early childhood through adulthood. Our assessments are designed to understand your unique strengths and challenges, empowering you or your child to learn, grow and thrive.
Common Behavioural and Psychological Challenges
Behavioural and psychological challenges can manifest at different stages of development, often linked to key developmental milestones or neurodevelopmental processes. These challenges may include:
- Attention and Focus: Difficulty maintaining attention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity.
- Emotional Regulation: Struggles with managing emotions, leading to anxiety, depression, or mood swings.
- Social Challenges: Difficulty understanding social cues, building relationships, or adapting to changes.
- Learning and Cognitive Differences: Dyslexia, processing delays, or general difficulties with problem-solving and memory.
- Executive Functioning: Struggles with planning, organising, or following through on tasks.
We approach these challenges from a strengths-based perspective, focusing on what you or your child can do and how we can leverage existing skills to support further growth. Rather than focusing on the difficulties, the purpose of our assessment is to highlight areas of potential, guiding the development of personalised strategies to overcome challenges and achieve milestones.
Packages Available
We offer assessment packages tailored to the needs of individuals at different life stages, including:
- Cognitive Package
This package focuses on assessing cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, problem-solving, and processing speed. It’s ideal for individuals looking to understand their cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, especially in relation to academic or professional performance.
- ADHD Package
The ADHD package is designed to assess attention, focus, impulsivity, and hyperactivity in both children and adults. This assessment helps to understand how ADHD may be affecting academic, social, or work performance and provides strategies to manage symptoms.
- Autism Package
This package focuses on identifying and understanding characteristics associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It assesses social communication, behaviour patterns, and sensory processing differences, providing insights to support meaningful growth in social and developmental areas.
- ADHD and Autism Package
This comprehensive package assesses both ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as these conditions often co-occur. It’s ideal for individuals who exhibit overlapping symptoms of both conditions, offering a thorough evaluation that provides clarity on how to support unique challenges.
- Learning Package
The Learning Package is designed to assess specific learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. This package explores how cognitive and processing difficulties might affect learning and provides recommendations for school or work accommodations.
Each of these packages is designed with a strengths-based approach, ensuring that the assessment process highlights individual capabilities and helps to create actionable plans for learning, development, and personal growth.
The Assessment Process
Our assessment process is holistic and collaborative. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect:
- Initial Consultation: We begin with an in-depth conversation to gather background information, explore presenting concerns, and understand your goals for the assessment. This usually involves discussions with parents, caregivers, or significant others for a broader perspective. Following this appointment, screening tools (questionnaires) will be sent to relevant stakeholders (e.g. parents, teachers). An assessment plan will be formulated and communicated, via a 15-minute phone/ video consult, within two days of the initial appointment.
- Formal Testing: Depending on the specific concerns, a range of standardised tests may be administered. These assessments may explore cognitive abilities, behavioural patterns, emotional well-being, or specific neurodevelopmental concerns.
- Observation: For younger children, we often include naturalistic observations in school settings to get a fuller understanding of their social and learning environments.
- Feedback Session: After gathering and analysing all data, we provide a detailed feedback session where we explain the findings in an accessible and supportive way. This session focuses on discussing strengths, areas for improvement, and practical strategies for moving forward.
- Comprehensive Report: You will be provided with a written report which summarises all assessment results, with clear recommendations for interventions, support strategies, and ongoing growth. This report can be shared with schools, therapists, or other professionals.
Our assessments are not just about diagnosing a condition but about empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and tools they need for long-term success. Whether supporting a child’s learning in school or helping adults manage life transitions, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
