Disability & NDIS Psychology Support

More than 1 in 5 Australians live with a disability (Australian Bureau of Statistics), with this proportion being higher still as we age. At Rest in Essence, we understand that people living with a disability have the same expectations of quality life, access, opportunity and choice, as any other member of the community.  People living with disabilities may face additional challenges to achieving their desired level in life satisfaction and wellbeing.

Our team consists of informed and committed allies. As reflected in the community, many of us have our own lived and caregiving experience. We are committed to providing professional and empowering support, focussed on life satisfaction (as defined by you). This style of support is affirming and centred around your perspectives, wishes and needs.

Who we work with at Rest in Essence:

  • Children and their parents seeking assessment and/ or support
  • Individuals seeking support with adjustment to change and goal setting
  • NDIS participants (plan or self-managed)
  • Individuals referred through a GP, under Medicare services (Mental Health Care Plans or Chronic Disease Management)
  • Individuals seeking to develop psychological skills, for improved personal, social and vocational engagement
  • Individuals and/ or couples, seeking support with relationship issues and/ or sexual dysfunction
  • Individuals referred under specific programs, such as WorkCover, CTP and Employee Assistance Programs

How care through psychological support at Rest in Essence can benefit you:

  • We will listen to your story and goals
  • Together, we will create a collaborative plan that aligns with your values and preferences
  • Our approach aims to support you holistically, focusing less on specific symptoms or conditions and more on your overall well-being
  • Where relevant, safe, and agreed upon, we can involve others in your support network to help achieve your goal
  • If we’re not the best fit for your needs, we will do our best to connect you with services that are

What does it mean to be client-centred, strength-based and neuro-affirming:
These principles guide how we work with you. You are the expert on your life. We respect your autonomy and capacity to make choices that are right for you.

We work with you in a positive and holistic way, focusing on your strengths rather than just your challenges.  We value individual, functional, and neurological differences, approaching them with curiosity, respect, and non-judgment.

Team care and family inclusivity:
Rest in Essence was founded with a passion for supporting individuals, grounded in the understanding that we are all part of families, relationships, and communities.  As a result, we recognise that meaningful progress is often enhanced when the steps we take toward change are supported and shared with those closest to us.

As with all aspects of your care, the involvement of any third party is guided entirely by your choices and, in the case of children, by applicable age-related requirements. While ultimately led by you, we encourage a best practice ‘team care’ approach.  This approach helps ensure that any formal supports you are involved with are aware of your goals and working closely together to support you most effectively.
