Dr James Ulrick is an experienced Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Rest in Essence Mental Health Practice. He has worked across inpatient, outreach, and outpatient settings within the Hunter New England Local Health District and continues to work as the Psychiatrist for Newcastle Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

James completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales before undertaking his junior medical training in Wagga Wagga, returning to Sydney for general psychiatry training at Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals. He later moved to Newcastle, where he completed advanced training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

With a holistic and patient-centred approach, James is committed to supporting young people and their families in achieving their optimal mental health. He advocates for the careful and targeted use of medication, including deprescribing when clinically appropriate. His expertise spans a wide range of mental health conditions and trauma, with a particular interest in anxiety, mood, and psychotic disorders.

Dr Ulrick offers assessments and ongoing treatment for young people in a family context up to the age of 24 years. However, he does not provide ADHD or ASD assessments and does not initiate stimulant medication.
